This grave marks a very sad event. It states: Here lie the bodies of four brothers. They were the children of Station Master Robert Smith of the Midland Railway Company and his wife, Harriet. All contracted Scarlet Fever in 1880 and were dead within a week. They were:
Horace Richard
9 years
Rowland
7 years
Godfrey
4 years
Ralph
1 year 7 months

It's sad when you come across the grave of so many children who died. Happy New Year
So incredibly sad. I wonder if they had other children.
Wow ... very sad indeed. Interesting find, though.
You cannot imagine the grief those poor parents endured, thank you for remembering these little boys.....
Heel triest maar na zo veel jaar dat het graf er nog is verteld het als nog zijn verhaal en bij het lezen staan we daar toch bij stil en onze gedachte late dwalen en het gevoel daar bij als men dit over komt als ouders zijnde

Kinderen
My great grandmother lost three children in a matter of two weeks due to diphtheria. My grandfather escaped the pandemic as he was sent off to a military school.
That would be the kind of crushing loss that would bring me to my knees.
Absolutely horrifying. Those poor, poor parents. How do you go on after something like this?
