A Memorial to Pte James Booth

Burnley Cemetery is home to an impressive memorial to a solder of the Great War.  The statue stands above the Booth family grave. It depicts a soldier in full marching order with his rifle at his side. The weapon has been broken at some stage. It isn't certain whether it is modelled on Private James Booth, himself.

241973 Pte James Booth served in the 8th Battalion, King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment and was killed in action in France on September 26, 1917. His parents, Joshua and Margaret, who lived at 365 Briercliffe Road, Burnley, are buried in the grave. Booth's obituary can be found on this link:  Obituary of James Booth He is buried in Perth (China Wall) Cemetery which stands  3 kms east of Ypres.

The cert at the end says remembered with Honour indicating his body was not found or it is in an unknown solders grave. I feel the plot was either bought and the statue placed there or was rased when the father died.

What a wonderful monument Laurie, thanks for sharing. I was intrigued by Bill's comment that 'Rememeber with Honour' implied a body not found or in an unknown grave. Do you know of any other terms that imply a similar thing?.

Thanks Bill and Holi'. The wording 'remembered with honour' is a generic term that appears on all the certificates provided by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission - a standard phrase, I am afraid. Pte Booth is most certainly 'buried' in the Perth Cemetery (China Wall).

Wow -- such detail! He looks like he could come to life and step down and walk.....

I think it's lovely that this is here for him, and that he was obviously much loved.
