This is one of the worst examples of headstone erosion I have ever seen. It stands in Preston Cemetery in Lancashire. The cemetery staff have access to precise records of burials so I will see if I can find out who is buried in this plot.
Wow .... that's crazy. I mean, it so big -- does make me think, like others, that it may have been damaged a long time ago, and nature has worked on it, as well.
An illustrated look at the World of Graveyards and Cemeteries. There are many Stories behind the Stones that Stand in them. Who knows what we might find?

Oh dear they is bad. I suspect they thought their stone would last forever.
Beneath Thy Feet
Theoretically it could have been defaced a long time ago and then nature smoothed the rough edges.
That's very sad, but it's so fortunate the burial records are precise. Interesting how the erosion alsmost forms a profile / silhouette.
