COLLIER GRAVE SLAB IS EARLIEST IN CHURCHYARD OF ST MARY PRESTWICH

The flat grave slab  to the Collier children is the earliest to be found in St Mary’s churchyard. Grade II listed, it records the children of Thomas Collier who died and were buried between Dec 1 and Dec 12, 1641. The inscription reads:
HEAR LYETH THE BODIES OF THE CHILDREN OF THOMAS COLLIER – RICHARD, MARY, JOHN AND MARTHA WHO BURIED BE TWIXT THE FIRST AND TWELFTH OF DECEMBER AO DMI 1641
