Samuel Henry Clayton was a member of the Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain and Ireland. It’s motto is Unity and Strength. In 1923, his wife Sophia appeared in court in Tamworth charged with illegally running a Grand National style horse race lottery. She was fined £2 and made to pay costs of nine shillings. Perhaps it was apt that she was arrested by the aptly named Inspector Horseman.
