Is there a Murderer among the Mourners?

At the graveside of the recently deceased, a group of mourners gather to pay their respects and admire the floral tributes laid on the ground. But, what's this? A policeman stands among them. Was the deceased a victim of some terrible crime? Is the poisoner within the throng? I don't know, but I wish someone had recorded what was depicted on the back of this card. If I knew which cemetery it was, that would help.

Completely intrigued. The ladies have quite a collection of furs. The wreaths at the back are huge. The bouquets on the ground so oddly laid out. Everyone oddly unconnected with each other. The policeman sussing out the photographer. Twelve mourners but many, many flowers. Late winter/early Spring. I'll be thinking about this for ages...

Two uniformed officers... thus there is atleast one plains clothes officer amoung the crowd.

Since the two in frame are not standing together it is my guess that one of the mourners is already in custody and is being allowed to attend.

Oh well, One uniformed officer... without my glassed I thought the woman under the tree was a man with a badge on his hat.

Very spread out for mourners. I still think the guy next to the uniform is in custody.

The photo may well be for a police lineup. Usually the guilty who "attend" funerals do so at a distance.

Maybe there had been lots of grave-robbing going on and they posted policemen at every graveside. I don't know, but I do love this photo.

Maybe he's a friend of the deceased?
Or brought a prison inmate to the funeral perhaps?
