Col Damant could see Boer attacking men in distinctive British uniforms. Went to rescue. It was a trick and the 'British' were Boers in disguise. British guns caught in open & crews annihilated. Damant himself shot 4 times but survived, 33 British soldiers killed & 45 wounded.
