HE WAS THE FIRST INTERRED

The graveyard at St John the Evangelist, Wingates, Westhoughton was consecrated May 5, 1866. The first burial was that of James Holden, aged 17, on June 9, 1866. The edge of his headstone is inscribed ‘The First Interred 1866’
