Eroded Headstone

This is one of the worst examples of headstone erosion I have ever seen. It stands in Preston Cemetery in Lancashire. The cemetery staff have access to precise records of burials so I will see if I can find out who is buried in this plot.

  1. Oh dear they is bad. I suspect they thought their stone would last forever.

  2. Theoretically it could have been defaced a long time ago and then nature smoothed the rough edges.

  3. That's very sad, but it's so fortunate the burial records are precise. Interesting how the erosion alsmost forms a profile / silhouette.

  4. Wow .... that's crazy. I mean, it so big -- does make me think, like others, that it may have been damaged a long time ago, and nature has worked on it, as well.
