Just three examples of differing styles of Welsh headstones. This trio was captured in St David's cemetery, Pembrokeshire. Some of the stones next to some trees are absolutely covered in Lichen.
I'd most certainly never seen a stone written in Welsh before now... they are lovely. There were some Welsh origin place names in Pennsylvania where I grew up, like Bryn Mawr or Bala Cynwyd, I always liked the sound of them... oh, and of course, "Owen" is of Welsh origin also, as in Owen Glendower, who led the English on such a merry chase...
Thanks, Owen. Owen Glendower? It has a certain ring to it! I am well and still exploring boxes of treasures. I have taken charge of a negative and slide scanner and intend to produce a number of digital images from them. Recent discoveries include a lot of Kodachrome slides of Belize, Sachsenhausen and Belsen concentration camps, together with a Jewish cemetery and a Rodeo in Berlin!
